Thinadhoo arson case back to court

The Prosecutor General’s office has re-prosecuted، for the 4th time، the case against 89 Thinadhoo residents accused of arson on 8th February 2012 following the ousting of President Nasheed the previous day.
Whether the case was accepted by the Criminal Court has yet to be confirmed.
The case، which has previously had numerous hearings، was closed and cancelled after PG’s lawyers failed to turn up for the most recent hearing.
PG’s office has since successfully appealed the decision to close the case with the High Court. The Criminal Court has insisted that it won’t accept the case until a decision is made by the High Court، which voided the Criminal Court’s decision to close the case.
All 89 accused of setting fire to Thinadhoo Police Station and Thinadhoo Court on 8th February 2012، an act the state sees as terrorism، have denied the accusations.
Witness accounts were to be heard on the most recent hearing of the case، before it was cancelled.
