Adhaalath Party has expressed concern over the niqab ban issued on Civil Service’s female employees.
A statement released by the Party stated that Maldives was a 100 percent Islamic nation and any and all expressions of Islam was a guaranteed right in clause 37 and 20 which grants right to employability and equal rights respectively.
The statement said the niqab ban was in direct contrast to empowering women and protecting their rights, adding that this effectively hampered the way for female employees of civil service to progress ahead in their careers. The statement added that this will also limit the number of qualified individuals going up for civil service.
Adhaalath said the Government’s policy was bereft from common sense, divisive and promote a culture of lack of respect in the society. The party said that this was in line with the oppression Muslim women faced in foreign nations, adding that this was not an acceptable view in the Maldives.
The Party also said that we have to eliminate systematic injustices to women who adopted the niqab and grant equal rights to all without any bias within all state institutions. The statement concluded by stating that Adhaalath Party will support all efforts carried out by any party to protect rights.
