Ahmed Shafeeg, a member of Qasim’s legal team have said that Qasim is loved by everyone and a lot of people always wants to meet Qasim, and hence he does not understand why he became a threat to the society all of a sudden.
Shafeeg said that the people of Maldives believes that Qasim is the most compassionate and generous person the Maldives has ever seen because Qasim’s past actions prove it. Shafeeg said that no Maldivians are unaware of the humanitarian and philanthropic ventures of Qasim.
“While these things are evident, the police suddenly say that Qasim is a threat to the society. How can we believe this ? Who will accept this? “ said Shafeeg
Shafeeg said that someone can be a threat to the society only if that person has a criminal background and Qasim has never been convicted of a crime and never has participated in any crimes.
“Qasim never does anything other than things that are beneficial for the society. Hence there is no room to believe that Qasim is a threat to the society” said Shafeeg. In addition, he said that police could not show a single reason Qasim should be held in detention and hence the case will be appealed as soon as the court opens on Sunday.
