The Maldives Correctional Service formalised the community reintegration of 27 individuals under parole during the preceding year, according to comprehensive annual statistics detailing inmate management and rehabilitation efforts.
Data released by the agency to bolster institutional transparency reveals that 241 requests for parole were processed throughout 2025. Within this cohort, 189 applications were determined to meet established eligibility criteria, officials reported, while 43 were rejected for failing to comply with statutory requirements.
The administrative workflow involved the submission of 86 cases to the Parole Board for evaluation, of which 42 were authorised for release and 44 were denied. Despite these authorisations, the actual number of individuals released under parole for the year stood at 22, the agency said, as 25 instances were subsequently rescinded.
Officials noted that in two of these cases, the cancellation was necessitated by the absence of a designated guarantor to assume responsibility for the inmate. Ultimately, a total of 27 individuals successfully transitioned back into society, marking a milestone in the state’s modernised correctional framework.
Beyond rehabilitative milestones, the agency facilitated 15,047 medical consultations and over 10,500 inmate communications to preserve social bonds, officials reported. Logistical operations remained extensive, involving more than 9,700 land, sea, and air transfers nationwide to meet judicial and medical requirements.
