Jumhooree Party (JP) presidential candidate Qasim Ibrahim has urged the public to refrain from solely considering party affiliation when casting their votes in the upcoming presidential elections. Instead, he encouraged voters to prioritize evaluating the candidates' contributions and competence in serving the country.
Speaking to the people of Mahibadhoo during his campaign campaign tour to Alif Dhaal atoll for the presidential election scheduled to be held on September 9, he said that the people had witnessed the bitter results of voting solely on the basis of party allegiance during the previous presidential elections.
He said that JP had participated in the establishment of each of these governments as the party was unaware of their reality, and the people had not given JP the opportunity to serve the nation.
"Based on that experience, I urge you not to repeat the same mistake. Let's adopt the approach followed in other democratic countries, like the United States. This is how we can achieve success," he said.
Qasim highlighted that even in the most successful nations, during elections, citizens consider voting for the most capable and qualified individuals to serve the country.
He emphasized that casting votes solely based on party alignment would be detrimental to both the people and the nation. Qasim said that no regular member of any party would wish for such a situation.
