President Muizzu Delivering Pledges Through Direct Engagement in Atolls: Economic Minister

Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has stated that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is effectively implementing efforts to fulfil his pledges to the people, both by overseeing work while based in Male’, and also by traveling to the atolls to directly engage with the communities.
Speaking to PSM News regarding the President’s ongoing four-day tour of the inhabited islands of Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Minister Saeed said when President Muizzu took office, there were widespread fears that the country was heading towards bankruptcy, and the President prioritised urgent measures to address and improve the situation.
Since then, the President has been working with government-owned companies and ministries to deliver on campaign commitments. During his tour, he is meeting with local councils and institutions to hear their concerns directly. He is also providing information to community leaders through heads of state-owned enterprises and Cabinet ministers, inaugurating several projects, laying foundation stones, and launching practical development of projects, he added.
"He could remain in the capital and supervise matters from there. However, he takes every opportunity to visit the islands. To my knowledge, this is already the second time he is touring the islands with senior government officials, including Cabinet ministers and heads of companies,” the Minister noted.
The Minister said once projects are launched in the islands, the benefits will quickly be felt in the local economy, with new job opportunities, business growth, and improved transport services across the atolls.
The Minister further noted that the government has begun introducing Automated Teller Machine (ATM) services across the atolls, including US dollar ATMs. He noted that although some have criticised the efforts, no previous leader had managed to implement it despite demand. However, the President has commenced the work strategically and is now installing ATMs across the islands, including dollar ATMs, which he said will even facilitate the development of tourism.
Minister Saeed said the President has provided hope for the development of tourism in the Haa Dhaalu Atoll. He noted that with the development of Hanimaadhoo International Airport, which is expected to reach completion by November, projects such as Naagoashi resort will strengthen economic prospects in the region.
The Minister said the President's current visits covering the entire country have enabled policies and decisions to be shaped according to the aspirations of the people.
