The Maldives’ government on Sunday dismissed Abdul Shukoor Abdulla as the managing director of State Electric Company (STELCO) and appointed the minister of the President’s Office and chair of the Economic Council, Ahmed Zuhoor, to the post.
The president of the Privatisation Board, Mohamed Nizar, confirmed the change on Sunday, adding that Abdul Shukoor Abdulla is yet to be appointed to another institute after his dismissal.
The newly appointed STELCO MD Ahmed Zuhoor first served as the Commissioner of Customs during President Abdulla Yameen’s administration. He then briefly served as the youth minister, health minister and home minister before he was appointed as minister of the President’s Office last August.
Zuhoor is notably the stateman to have been appointed to the most number of posts in the current regime.
Meanwhile, Abdul Shukoor had served as the managing director of STELCO for several years. He was temporarily dismissed from the position in 2008 before his reappointment in June 2014.
