First Lady inaugurating Gloria Jean’s Coffee -PHOTO: MIHAARU / HUSSAIN WAHEED
The pavilion, developed by Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), along with the famous Australian franchise Gloria Jean’s Coffee was unveiled on Monday at Rasfannu beach in the capital Mal’e.
The unveiling ceremony, was inaugurated by First Lady Fathmath Ibrahim, who was also among the first customers of Gloria Jean’s Coffee to try their products. The ceremony was attended by numerous entrepreneurs and ministers of the Maldives.
Speaking at the ceremony, MWSC Managing Director Fazul Rasheed stated that two more international franchises are yet to be unveiled in the pavilion, with emphasis on a family friendly restaurant.
Housing minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu, also briefed during the ceremony, on the process of bringing the president’s vision of Rasfannu into reality. Muizzu lauded the President for his efforts to bring forth developments and advancements to the country in various aspects.
At the ceremony, economic minister Mohamed Saeed had noted that Gloria Jean’s Coffee will soon unveil their branches in Addu City and Haa Dhaal Atoll Kulhudhufushi.
The economic minister had also noted on the addition of franchise brands to the Maldives, highlighting the inauguration of the Emboodoo Lagoon and the brands to be unveiled at the Velana International Airport.
Gloria Jean’s Coffee also inaugurated their CSR services to the Maldives on Monday. Gloria Jean’s Coffee had signed with Autism Association, Artist Community and Beautiful Eyes the Down Syndrome Association. However, no further details of the CSR work have been revealed.
MWSC had earlier opened a bid, looking to develop a pavilion at the western artificial beach last August. The bid was awarded to Sibco Pvt Ltd, and the contract to manage the pavilion was won by Brothers Catering.
As a franchised specialty coffeehouse company, Gloria Jean’s Coffee has opened over than 1,000 coffee houses across 39 markets worldwide, including over 460 in Australia.
