Indian Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mr. J P Nadda has concluded his Official Visit to Maldives as Special Envoy of India to Participate in the Official programme held in Male’ to mark 50 years of Maldives Independence.
Hon'ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mr. J P Nadda called on
H.E.President of Maldives, Mr. Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on 27 July and conveyed India's congratulations on the 5oth Anniversary of Maldives
independence.
Minister Nadda also reiterated the commitment of the Indian
government to assisting the Government of Maldives in its efforts to
strengthen the health sector in Maldives.
He also assured India's full support for comprehensive renovation of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital which is currently going on and for deputation of Indian doctors and specialists to Maldives.
The Indian delegation included High Commissioner of India Mr. Rajeev Shahare, Joint Secretary in Ministry of External Affairs
Mrs. Suchitra Durai, Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Sanjay Rana and Dr. Aman Deep Garg from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
From Maldives, the meeting was attended by Foreign Minister of Maldive . Dunya Maumoon,Minister of Health, Ms. Iruthisham Adam, High Commissioner of Maldives t India, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed and State Minister at the President's Office Mr Mohamed Ghassaan Maumoon.
Earlier, Minister Nadda had held separate meetings with Foreign Minister of
Maldives, Mrs. Dunya Maumoon and HE Minister of Health, Ms. Iruthisham Adam on 26 July to discuss the ongoing bilateral cooperation in health as well as future plans and proposals.
Minister Nadda also visited the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Male on
27 July and inspected the ongoing project for renovation of the hospital
along with Minister Iruthisham Adam and Deputy CEO of IGMH, Mr. Rizwan.
The 200-bed Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital was built with Government of India's assistance and was started in 1995.
The Indian government is currently carrying out a comprehensive renovation of the IGMH at the cost of US $ 10 million.
Cooperation in health Sector has been one of the important elements
of India's relations with Maldives. India also assisted in setting up of
Senahiya Military hospital in Male’. A team of Indian Armed Force doctors
and technical staff has been deputed to assist in running of Senahiya
hospital.
