Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor has returned to Male’ yesterday morning, on conclusion of his official visit to Malta.
During his visit to Malta, the Vice President met with President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca of Malta, and presented a letter from President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.
VP Adeeb also met Malta’s former Prime Minister Dr. Laurence Gonzi and discussed the bilateral relations between the two nations and on improving the relations.
He also met with Deputy Prime Minister of Malta and Minister of European Affairs and Implementation of the Electoral Manifesto, Louis Grech. In that meeting, the Vice President and the Deputy Prime Minister of Malta expressed hopes to enhance bilateral ties between the Maldives and Malta. Discussions were also held on ways to develop economic relations between the two countries.
Vice President Adeeb described Malta as a model country for investments, and briefed the Deputy Prime Minister of Malta on the tourism industry of Maldives. He also noted the reform measures being taken towards economic diversification in the Maldives. At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech assured the Vice President of Malta’s support and assistance to the Maldives.
VP Adeeb also visited the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2015 Taskforce. During the Vice President’s visit, Secretary and Advisor of the Steering Committee of CHOGM 2015, Giovanni Buttigieg briefed the Vice President on their preparations for the CHOGM 2015. Prior to his visit to the CHOGM 2015 Taskforce, Vice President Adeeb visited the Fort St Angelo, and the Upper Barrakka Gardens
VP Adeeb’s trip to Malta was carried out after his visit to Egypt to take part in the opening ceremony of the Second Suez Canal. In this visit, VP Adeeb met with the Maldivian students in Egypt.
