Islamic Ministry said that they have received 100,000 copies of Mushaf Maldeeb, (Holy Quran specially printed for Maldives) and that they will start distributing it this year.
Speaking to the press the deputy Minister of Islamic Ministry, Muhammad Musthafa said that the first batch of the Quran are now in customs and within 2-3 days it will be cleared. He said that the project is aimed to give a copy of the Quran for each and every Maldivian, but in the first phase they will distribute one copy for each house. He said that once they receive more copies, each individual will be given one.
In addition, he said that there was some delay in printing process because they had some difficulties in sending money to Sudan where the Quran was to be printed.
“ Later with our efforts, we arranged to print in Dubai. This saved a lot of money as well. Initially it was 5 dollars per copy but from Dubai we printed for 3 dollars per copy” said Musthafa.
The government companies and well-wishers provided financial assistance to print the Quran.
