Both the state and defense lawyers have presented their witnesses in the case filed against former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb on charges of abuse of power.
The charges were filed against the now deposed VP on the accusations that he had given orders to place an IED on the President’s speedboat “Finifenmaa”. A total of six witnesses and evidence had been submitted against him.
The state had presented MNDF warrant officer Ahmed Khaleel who will testify that Adeeb had ordered to bring “Finifenmaa” to Aarah on September 27 and that he had not used the vessel prior to that. MNDF Staff Sargent First Class Ismail Muaz, another witness, will corroborate his statement.
MNDF Sargent Moosa Khaleel, MDNF SPG crew Mohamed Suzail and MDNF SPG crew Abubakr Muaz are to testify that Adeeb was in Aarah and had returned to Male’. The state will present an additional anonymous witness.
Adeeb’s lawyers had listed his two secretaries Aminath Maureena and Hood as witnesses.
Maureena was listed a witness to prove that while Adeeb had requested to arrange a trip to Aarah, he had not specified on which vessel to be used and that the arrangement had proceeded as according to the set procedures.
Adeeb’s former body guard, Hassan Rikaz will testify accordingly and will testify that MNDF had informed that only “Finifenmaa” was in operation. The defense had also listed MNDF Warrant Officer Ahmed Khaleel and MNDF Sargent First Class Ismail Muaz as material witnesses.
Adeeb’s lawyers have listed Mahmood Abdu Sattar, Mohamed Suzail and Abu Bakr Muaz to support the statement that Adeeb had travelled to Aarah under the set procedures and that the crew had not been off the vessel for the duration of the entire trip.
Additionally, MNDF Sargent Moosa Khaleel and Staff Sargent Hassan Sabah had been listed as witnesses to prove that Adeeb had not been on the vessel apart from the travelling times. MNDF Sargent Siyad Abdul Wahid, MNDF Corporal Nabeel and Corporal Jadullah Ahmed had been listed as witnesses to prove that “Finifenmaa” had been security cleared following the trip to Aarah.
The presiding Judge had decreed that the hearings will be held on 31st of this month from 10am onward.
