Gasim Ibrahim، who is the President of Jumhooree Party as well as the representative of Maamilgili has received several death threats via SMS. He has filed the report with Police.
A media official of Maldives Police Service has stated that this incident is under investigation.
The report has been recieved yesterday in request for investigation، and Mr. Gasim Ibrahim had sent letter to the Police Service، MNDF and People’s Majilis with the number from which he recieved the death threats included in.
In the letter that Mr. Gasim had sent it was written that he received a death threat from a local number. Apart from that، one of the messages claimed that Gasim and his family would face death.
Gasim has explained، in the letter that he first received such threats on 13th of August and the second threat was received on last Saturday، 16th of August. But when he contacted the number regarding the threats، the caller answered that he had not done any such thing and these messages are being sent using a software which enables dublicate SMS sending.
“I am receiving these messages because there has always people who hates what I do for the prosperity، welfare and safety of the people of the country through the means of my business and as a representative in People’s majilis” Mr. Gasim Ibrahim stated in his letter.
Before this، similar messages of death threats towards Mr. Gasim Ibrahim got viral in social medias. This case had been reported to the Police Service in last June.
