Former Defense Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim was sentenced to 11 years after he was unable to prove the allegations were actually on him.
One of those allegations was the pen drive discovered in his pen drive. Even though the ownership of the pen drive was not proven, it was established as a fake one from the start. The other was the pistol. Following the discovery of Adeeb’s DNA on the pistol, many had called for his freedom.
Even from the start many had alleged that the pistol and the pen drive were planted by Police, engineered by Ahmed Adeeb. That Nazim and his wife were removed from their bed room to plant the evidence. The Police had confirmed that the fingerprints of Nazim or his family were not found on the pistol.
Based on all this, what many had suspected had become true.
It had been a year to the incident. The fact that the DNA report had not been filed is not an issue towards Nazim.
Court had sentenced on the grounds that he had not been able to prove that the pistol was not his. However, with the new allegations and the DNA, the real owner of the gun had been proven and the case has been concluded.
Legal experts had agreed that there was no basis for keeping Nazim in jail. Unless there was a change in the investigation, there is no reason to keep him in jail.
ACP Abdullah Nawaz said that Nazim was sentenced before the investigation was concluded. Even Nazim’s lawyer, Husnu Suood had admitted that there was no legal reason to keep him in jail.
Police had handed over the case to PG for prosecution. Nawaz said a direct link between the pistol and Adeeb can only be confirmed after all investigation had been completed.
