Adhaalath Party (AP) has announced that it will be joining the all-party talks with the Maldivian government as encouraged by Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) and United Nations.
AP made the announcement via its official Twitter account this Tuesday morning.
AP is willing to participate in the talks as encouraged by the UN, CMAG & other stakeholders. In fact we called for it back in March 2015.— Adhaalath Party (@AdhaalathOffice) September 27, 2016 The party has not yet announced the name of the official who will be joining the talks.
AP follows Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in abandoning their conditions and agreeing to the all-party-talks after CMAG called out for both the Maldivian government and Maldivian opposition political parties to set aside their conditions and resume the talks immediately.
MDP National Council held an emergency meeting last Monday night and made the decision to re-join the discussions.
The official who will represent MDP at the all-party talks will be decided by the party leadership, according to a decree passed by MDP National Council during the meeting.
Maldivian government has asked MDP and AP to submit the name of their representative at the all-party talks to President’s Office.
CMAG has warned it will be taking decisive action against Maldives if it fails to make progress on the reforms instructed by Commonwealth by March, 2017.
