The Criminal Court has accepted the case against 21 people, regarding the arson attacks on three government buildings and a café in Addu City’s Hithadhoo on 8 February 2012.
Criminal Court’s Media Official Ahmed Mohamed Manik said last night that the 21 people are charged with terrorism, and that the Court has accepted the case but not yet scheduled the trial.
Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office’s Media Official Hussain Nashid informed yesterday that one of the accused people is a 50-year-old woman, and that they are being accused of arson attacks on Addu City’s PG Office, Hithadhoo Police Station, Police Training School, Police Accommodation Block, and Kohere Café.
He said that complaints of more arson attacks in Addu City are currently under investigation by the PG Office, and several similar cases are also being investigated by the Police.
The State earlier charged 13 people with terrorism following the arson attack on Addu City’s Magistrate Court.
The trial in progress for 11 out of the 13 people, and the Judge concluded the most recent session by announcing that the State will present evidence against the accused at the next session.
