LUX* South Ari Atoll resort has joined Maldives Associaton of Tourism Professionals (ATP)'s campaign to ban single-use plastic on December 1.
The resort in association with ATP have planned multiple awareness programs against single-use plastic. Additionally, under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, LUX* South Ari Atoll has pledged to ban plastic straws, bottles and bags across the resort.
The aim of LUX* is to establish itself as a single-use plastic free resort by the end of 2019. Additionally, the resort intends to reduce the carbon footprint emitted by the facilities on the resort.
Some islands with guesthouse industries have started to work towards banning the single-use plastics under the campaign initiated by ATP.
Keydhoo, Vaavu Atoll, Bodufolhudhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll and Ukulhas, Alifu Alifu Atoll have stopped the use of plastic bags.
“We are proud to be the first resort to partner with ATP and we appreciate their support and commendable work across the Maldives in pledging to ban single-use plastics. This is so important to Maldives as a powerful tourism destination”, said the General Manager LUX* South Ari Jonas Amstad, as quoted by corporate media outlet 'Corporate Maldives.'
