Nasheed pledges pension for stay-home mothers
Speaking during a ‘questions and answers’ session held for women on Tuesday evening, the former president noted the hard work being put in by women for their livelihood. “Out of the 137 programs included in our policies, six have been solely designed for women,” he said. Nasheed said a MDP government will facilitate easier means for women to work which includes introducing flexible working hours in the morning, afternoon and evening. According to Nasheed, pension for stay home mothers is deserved and vowed to arrange means to raise funds for that endeavour. “I will introduce a policy to allow women to work at various hours of the day. A lot of mothers are unable to work because they have to stay home to look after their children. To solve that, day care centres must be established,” he said. Highlighting that the biggest issue faced by women living in the capital Male was a lack of housing, Nasheed vowed to resolve that if elected.
