The UN human rights office has released a statement calling the government to hold off executing Humaam.
The statement said that the trail of Humaam was not fair. They also asked for an internationally accepted retrial. The statement also said that Humaam confessed to the crime under duress. Also the statement said that Humaam’s lawyer said that Humaam has mental problems but the court did not address that issue.
UN also called to change the decision of the government to implement death penalty after 60 years. On 24th June Supreme court of the Maldives upheld the ruling of high court to implement death penalty on Humaam.
