The Maldives graft watchdog has commenced sharing its findings on the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)’s corruption scandal with the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had previously announced that it will publicise its report on the MMPRC corruption case on April 30 but has yet to release the report.
However, ACC’s Vice President Muawwiz Rasheed proclaimed in a tweet Sunday that ACC has commenced the “Duty Prosecution” stage to forward the MMPRC corruption case to the PG Office.
Duty Prosecution is the stage of sharing information on findings by investigative institutions with the PG Office before cases are forwarded to the PG.
ACC began its investigation a year and a half ago into the MMPRC corruption, which is the largest corruption scandal to rock the Maldives in history which saw state funds of MVR 1.2, acquired via island leases for resort development, embezzled through the corporation.
The commission has repeatedly declared that the release of the report was delayed as the MMPRC corruption is the largest case it has ever had to investigate, involving the interrogation of several individuals and acquiring of much information. However, ACC had stated last month that the report is almost completed.
