The participation of youth in public causes is hardly observed، said Minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal.
Speaking at the function held today at Hotel Jen to share the “Youth in Maldives” report to the concerning authorities، Minister Maleeh noted that the youth are seen more active on social media، rather than physically participating in public events and causes.
“Youth in Maldives” is report conducted by World Bank in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports، by questioning 1000 participants from Male’ City and Addu City.
Minister Maleeh said every youth need to be made understood they have a part to play in the progress of the nation، and such an environment should be delivered to them. “Ministries and authorities are undertaking several efforts to empower youth. These efforts should be delivered more effective than now.”
He further noted that the results from the efforts will be achieved if everyone work collaboratively.
Publicizing the “Youth in Maldives” report، World Bank Consultant said that while the 50% of Maldives’ population is the youth، 25% of the youth are either not studying or without jobs.
Noting that youth have no productive destinations in Maldives for leisure and comfort، the report said that an average apartment houses 10 people in general in Maldives، which leads the youth forming gangs on the streets.
“We have observed that youth going for jobs are low، as they acquire more money by working for a gang”، the report read.
