The Court has passed to seek the testimony of an explosives expert in the case filed against Ahmed Fayaz, Ahmed Thiham and Moosa Zameer in connection to the explosion aboard the Presidential speedboat, Finifenmaa.
Obstruction of justice charges had been filed against all three.
The Judge had stated that expert opinion had to be sought to determine the protocols and procedures when an explosion had occurred or when an explosive was discovered.
The court was scheduled to hear the witness statement of Warrant Officer Mohamed Ziyan. However, he was not summoned to Court, on the account that he was not in Male’ at the time. In place, the state had submitted the statements of two additional witnesses.
The state lawyers said that Ziyan will be returning on June 4. They also requested to expedite the process of taking the witness statements of the two witnesses.
Fayaz, Thiham and Zameer had refused to acknowledge the suggestion. They had requested to grant the same leniency in getting witnesses to the defense as well. However, the Judge had said such a request will have a negative impact on the trial as plenty of opportunity had been granted.
The Judge had ruled not to accept the two witnesses. The next hearing will be held on June 7, with Ziyan and the explosives expert offering their testimonies.
