Mohamed Asif from Vmedia appointed as president of MMC

Maldives Media Council (MMC) has appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Vmedia - Mohamed Asif (Mondhu) - as the council’s President, and independent candidate - Ahmed Shareef Nafeez - as vice-president.
The two appointees were granted their position for the new term, during their first council meeting held today. Their appointments were supported by the majority of the members who joined the meeting.
Asif and Shareef were the only two candidates contesting for the presidency and vice-presidency spots.
Their appointment also followed Wednesday’s voting on appointing members to the council, which concluded with Hussain Hassan (from Sun Online) claiming the spot over Ahmed Rifau - representing Veekly by 32 votes.
A total of 24 people contested for the posts in MMC, 12 each from the local side and the media side.
Result from the MMC elections - held on the 20th of November - showed the appointment of VTV’s Mohamed Asif (Mondhu) with 53 votes, DhiTV’s Hidhaayathulla with 43 votes, Haveeru’s Ahmed Hamdhoon with 36 votes, TVM’s Hafsy Abdulla with 35 votes, Atoll TV’s Mohamed Rafeeu with 35 votes, Uthuru(dot)com’s Miusam Abbas with 32 votes and Dhuvas Online’s Fares Mohamed Amir with 31 votes.
