Minister of Defence and National Security Mohamed Nazim has said that this year is a historical year for Department of Immigration and Emigration.
Minister Nazim said that the mechanism to issue electronic passports at the islands have now been facilitated.
In this regard, this process was introduced to Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhufushi and Addu City from July. He said that 157 passports were issued in Kulhudhufushi while 2000 passports were issued in Addu City.
He said that the passport application forms are available from Hanimadhoo, Eydhafushi, Naifaru, Fonadhoo, Villigili, Thinadhoo.
Minister Nazim said that 38974 passports were issued from 1 January to October.
