Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Wang Lixin said the China-Maldives bilateral relations accelerated to bolster the long-standing ties between the two countries.
At the 74th National Day celebrations of the People’s Republic of China held at the Social Center on Sunday Evening, October 8, Ambassador Lixin highlighted on the long-maintained close ties of the two nations.
The reception was attended by president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, vice-president elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan and the Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan.
“It has been 51 years since China and Maldives established diplomatic relations, and through mutual respect and support, we have set a positive example of equal benefit between two countries, despite their differences in size,” Ambassador Lixin said.
She said that the Belt and Road project initiated under Chinese President Xi Jinping’s vision celebrates its 10th anniversary, and that the Maldives greatly benefited from the project.
She highlighted several projects including the construction of Sinamale’ Bridge, the development of Velana International Airport and several social housing projects funded by the Chinese government.
