State-owned land is being allocated for residential use in Addu City’s reclaimed area for the first time, with a total of 251 plots set to be disturbed in the initial round.
The opportunity is open for residents of Maradhoo and Maradhoo Feydhoo. Addu City Council has announced 175 plots from Maradhoo, each measuring 1,500 square feet.
Plots will be issued under two categories from Maradhoo: 158 plots deisgnated for residents of Maradhoo, and 17 plots for Addu residents from other wards. Meanwhile, Maradhoo Feydhoo will allocate 75 plots, with 68 plots reserved for Maradhoofeydhoo residents, and eight for residents of other islands within Addu.
Applications will be accepted from 11 to 24 June, and must be submitted to the respective ward offices. The Addu City Council has published the information regarding the land allocation in the government gazette.
The Addu City land reclamation project was launched in 2023. A total of 190 hectares of land have been reclaimed under the project across the connected islands of Addu City.
Under efforts to add land area to Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo Feydhoo, Hankede and the three islands dedicated for tourism development, a total of 76 hectares have been added to Maradhoo and Maradhoo Feydhoo, and 80 hectares to Hithadhoo.
Maradhoo has a population of over 2,200, while Maradhoo Feydhoo’s population is over 1,200.
