The administration plans to transform the education sector with the introduction of an advanced education management system, announced Dr Ismail Shafeeu, Minister of Education. This state-of-the-art platform, according to him, aims to provide parents and guardians with seamless access to vital academic and student-related information.
Minister Shafeeu introduced the new initiative at the 'Riyaasee Bayaan 2025' forum. The event was dedicated to discussing President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's address at the inaugural session of Parliament for 2025. During his address, the president outlined the administration's vision and strategic plans for advancing the education sector.
At the forum, Minister Shafeeu provided further insights into the administration's planned initiatives, particularly highlighting the development of the comprehensive education management system. This system is designed to enable parents and guardians to access students' academic records and other relevant information, he added.
Minister Shafeeu disclosed that the project would necessitate an investment of approximately USD 2.91 million. Once operational, the system will provide real-time access to student attendance, school environment activities, and detailed examination results, he elaborated.
"All information related to students will be available," he stated. "Through the applications, teachers will also be able to view information pertinent to them. To cultivate a technologically savvy teaching force, a special platform will be established through the NIE [National Institute of Education]."
Delving deeper, Minister Shafeeu presented data on students' academic performance across various subjects. The ministry had conducted a comprehensive analysis of student proficiency levels in key stages one and two of the national curriculum, implemented in 2015, he noted.
The findings revealed a concerning trend in mathematics, according to the minister, with a significant number of students receiving low grades. Minister Shafeeu reported that while 50% of students passed the mathematics module in 2015, this figure had declined to 46% by 2023. He additionally highlighted that students were also struggling in English and Dhivehi languages.
