President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that police services will be established this year on 39 islands without police presence.
Delivering the Presidential Statement at the Parliament opening for this year, President Muizzu stated that the current government has established police stations in 27 islands so far.
"There are 39 islands that do not have police presence, and we will establish police service on these islands this year. As a result, there will be no islands that do not have police services by the end of this year," he said.
President Muizzu said the construction of permanent police stations in 20 islands is also set to commence this year. In addition, the government will increase its capacity this year to bring about a permanent solution to the issue of drugs and gangs, he said.
