The Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, stated that the development of parking buildings will provide a much needed solution to vehicle registration issues caused by limited capacity.
The Minister noted that a total of seven such buildings will be developed in Hulhumalé, with three in Phase One and four in Phase Two. He added that construction is currently under way at various stages.
Today, the foundation was laid for one such parking building in Hulhumalé Phase One, to be constructed as a 13-storey facility. The building will have a capacity of over 1,100 parking spaces, including more than 600 for cars and over 500 for motorcycles.
Vehicle lifts, electric charging points, and other essential services will be provided, along with sports facilities and retail outlets. The Minister added that other parking buildings are also in the early stages of development.
“Both private and public parking spaces are included. There will be 2,600 spaces for cars and over 1,000 for motorcycles,” Minister Ameen stated. These buildings will also include designated parking spaces for people with disabilities or those requiring special assistance.
The Minister stated that this is a modern parking system designed to provide greater convenience for both drivers and pedestrians. He added that the initiative represents a significant step towards ensuring calmer, more orderly roads.
