Gensets delivered to 12 islands for peak season, five operationalised

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has delivered generator sets (gensets) to 12 islands in the Maldives ahead of the yearly peak season for power consumption.
STELCO has detailed that five of these islands have currently established and operationalised gensets. These islands are Rasdhoo, Alif Alif Atoll; Mahibadhoo and Dhigurah in Alif Dhaalu Atoll and Thulusdhoo and Gulhi in Kaafu Atoll. Preparations are being made to initiate services of gensets in other islands, STELCO has added.
According to STELCO, Gulhi marks the latest island in which a genset was installed and utilised, with the generator comprising of 800 kW of capacity. With this, the power generation capacity in the island has now increased to 1904 kW.
In addition to this, a 1200 kW genset was commissioned for Villimale’ and operations have begun last month. STELCO has stated that this would ensure a reliable electric supply, providing ease to local residents.
These measures to expand electricity generation capacities will create stable, continuous electric services to meet the increased demands during peak season.
