Three arrested for attempting to traffic drugs into Dhuvaafaru via sea

Three people have been arrested for attempting to traffic drugs into R. Dhuvaafaru.
The suspects arrested on Wednesday in the counter-drug operation conducted by the Dhuvaafaru Police in collaboration with Narcotics Intelligence have been identified as three men: Abdulla Hassaan, 39, Gulfaam, R. Maakurathu, Abdulla Shaif, 25, Ujaalaaali, R. Dhuvaafaru and Ismail Mohamed, 21, Meheli, R. Dhuvaafaru.
According to police, two suspects were arrested while attempting to swim to Dhuvaafaru from a speedboat docked outside the island’s beach, which they had used to transport drugs from N. Velidhoo. The police added one the suspects attempted to flee upon spotting the police officers.
Meanwhile, the third suspect was arrested from the streets in Dhuvaafaru.
The Police said Abdulla Hassaan has been remanded in custody for five days upon presentation before the court, while the remaining two suspects have been remanded in custody for 30 days.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
There is an increase in drug-related cases in conjunction with every new year.
The Police had launched ‘Operation Riveli’ in conjunction with this new year to reduce such crimes.
