The Zakat Council, formed under the Zakat Act, has appointed Sheikh Imthithaau Abbas as the new Director General of the Maldives Zakat House.
Sheikh Imthithaau was selected for the role after the Zakat Council deemed him the most suitable candidate based on his qualifications, education and experience, following interviews with all applicants.
Prior to his appointment, Sheikh Imthithaau served as Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs until 14 January. He has also held senior positions and advisory roles such as Senior Political Director and Head of International Relations. Before the Zakat Act came into force, he served as the Vice Chairman of the Sharia Advisory Committee of the Zakat House.
Sheikh Imthithaau holds a Masters Degree in Judicial Sciences and Sharia Policy from the Islamic University of Maldives. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hadith Sciences and Islamic Studies from the Islamic University of Madinah and is currently pursuing a PhD in Islamic Judicial Sciences and Sharia Policy.
