Nationalism Initiative Designed to Mold a Dignified, Honourable State, Minister Adam Naseer says

The primary objective of this Administration’s nationalism initiative is to establish a dignified and honourable state, the Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim has said.
Speaking during this year’s National Day official ceremony, Minister Adam Naseer reflected on the historic significance of the occasion, highlighting that the day is associated with the safety and security of the Maldivian people. The Minister pointed out that the day was in 1558, when al-Sultan al-Ghaazee Muhammad Thakurufaanu al-A’uzam’s resolute efforts secured the nation’s sovereignty from the Portuguese, adding that there were many important lessons to be learned from the day 466 years ago.
"National Day tells us that it is a day of hope. It is a day to rid ourselves from despair. National Day is also a day of national unity. We need to remember that carpenters from all corners of the country helped build Kalhuohfummi [sailing boat used by Mohamed Thakurufaanu, in his endeavor to free the Maldives from the Portuguese occupation],” he explained.
Reflecting on the nationalism initiative announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the Minister expressed confidence that it will help restore the identity, nationality, language and culture of the Maldivian people. The initiative will also prove that Maldives, like other countries, is entitled to freedom and deserves to lead a dignified and honourable society.
National Day commemorates the heroic efforts of al-Sultan al-Ghaazee Muhammad Thakurufaanu al-A’uzam, and this year the official celebrations are being held in Utheemu, his birthplace.
