The waste management of different islands in the Maldives have so far cost 54 million Maldivian Rufiyaa، says Minister of Finance and Treasury Abdulla Jihad.
Speaking after the signing ceremony on the outline of 3R Forum on Waste Management، Minister Jihad noted that Rf. 26 million was allocated for waste management in this year’s budget، from which، majority goes for the waste management in capital Male’، as much as three times the total cost of the waste management of the other atolls.
Minister said so far، Rf. 14 million has been spent for the waste management of atolls، and Rf. 40 million has been spent on waste management of capital Male’.
Minister Jihad further noted that waste، and disposed items can be used to generate revenue.
In addition، Finance Minister assured that the Finance Ministry will fully support in creating a sustainable protection of the environment، and will aid in the waste management، as much as the financial stability of the country allows.
