The Non-Resident Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Maldives, His Excellency Dr Abdenor Khelifi, presented his Letter of Credence to His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, at a ceremony held this morning at the President's Office.
The Ambassador was escorted to the President’s Office from Republic Square in a cultural procession, “Haiykolhu," with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.
Following the presentation of credentials, the President and the Ambassador discussed mutual interests, including cooperation in trade and investment, as well as enhancing people-to-people ties between the two nations.
They also deliberated on training opportunities for Islamic scholars and Quran reciters in Algeria. The Ambassador commended the President for the Maldives’ position in advocating for Palestinian rights to self-determination.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Algeria were established on March 8, 1988.
