The Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) value of imports to the Maldives increased in January compared to the same period last year.
According to statistics by Maldives Customs Service, imports of goods rose to MVR 5.2 billion in January 2025, up from MVR 5.1 billion in the same month last year. Excluding fuel imports, total import value stood at MVR 4.4 billion in January.
According to statistics, the largest percentage of imports was of machinery and food products, including machinery worth MVR 960 million and food products worth an equal amount.
India, China and the UAE were the largest source countries for imports in January, with goods worth MVR 1 billion imported from each of these counties. Malaysia and Singapore followed behind, with goods worth MVR 421 million imported from Malaysia, and MVR 332 million from Singapore.
