Prepared to respond to allegations: Nasheed

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that he is prepared, if necessary, to go to the home of the Speaker of Parliament to respond to the allegations made against him in the resolutions sent to the Parliament.
Speaking to reporters at Male’ International Airport after his visit to the US, former President Nasheed said that he had not done anything illegal while he was President.
“We did nothing illegal during our administration. I did not accept money from anyone. I did not deprive people of their rights, or harm anyone. I am ready to defend myself. I told the Speaker of Parliament that I would even go to his home if I had to, to respond to the allegations against me,” Nasheed said.
Nasheed also said that the resolutions will not affect his popularity at the presidential election, and that resolutions are being sent to Parliament because other candidates are intimidated by him.
Two resolutions have been sent to Parliament against Nasheed, one by Kaashidhoo MP Abdullah Jabir and another by Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed.
Referring to his visit to the US, Nasheed said that discussions were held regarding the current political situation of the Maldives and the importance of a complete investigation by the Commission of National Inquiry on the transfer of power.
Nasheed received the annual James Lawson award at the Fletcher School at Tufts University in Washington. Nasheed also participated and spoke at the US Institute of Peace during his trip.
Nasheed was welcomed by his supporters in the rain, when he arrived in Male’.
