Criminal Court has postponed the hearings for issuing verdicts against Minister of Defence Moosa Ali Jaleel, former Defence Minister Tholhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaan, and Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Ziyad on terrorism charges related to the arrest of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed in 2012.
A senior official of the court told Sun Online that the hearings were initially scheduled for Friday (27 March 2015) night, but have been postponed and a new date will be announced later.
Moosa Ali Jaleel was the Chief of Defence Force at the time of the judge’s arrest.
Trials against all three abovementioned individuals have been completed, but the trial against former Malé Area Commander of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Ibrahim Mohamed Didi, on the same charges, is still ongoing.
Ibrahim Mohamed Didi’s trial is extended due to him being abroad for medical treatment.
Criminal Court, on 13 March 2015, sentenced former President Mohamed Nasheed to 13 years in prison on terrorism charges, for ordering the arrest of the judge in January 2012.
