Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that an independent nation needs citizens who adore independence, like the current citizens of Maldives.
Nasheed, in his statement on the occasion of Independence Day, expressed felicitations to the people of Maldives who uphold the nation’s independence and human dignity. “We are proud of the fact that the Maldives remains an independent nation. At the same time it is our duty to sustain our independence for our future generations.”
He said that the true secret behind the fact that forgiveness and compassion are not reasons to enslave citizens, is that they are humane disciplines supported by Islam.
