Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s claims last night at a rally at Usfasgandu that the Police are planning to create violence in Male’ on the day the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) publishes its report, have been denied by the Police.
In addition to Nasheed, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) said on its website yesterday that the party had also been informed of similar activities being organised by the Police.
Police Media Official Hassan Haneef said that the purpose of such rumours by Nasheed and MDP is to create hatred in the society towards the Police.
He assured that the Police will remain undeterred in their efforts to serve and protect the public.
He also said that the Police will take the necessary action against any person who attempts to create violence in the Maldives on the day the CNI publishes its report.
Nasheed expressed concern last night in his speech, over reports that a small group of Police Officers are planning to set fire to buildings and stab people on the day the CNI publishes its report.
While Nasheed makes these statements, the State has charged Hithadhoo medhu MP Mohamed Rasheed and Addu City Feydhoo Council member Ahmed Mirzad with terrorism, following the arson attacks in Addu City on 8 February.
