The government has launched a new national policy aimed at ensuring clean and reliable water and sewerage services across the Maldives.
The “National Water and Sewerage Policy” was officially unveiled by Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim. According to the Environment Ministry, the policy provides a long‑term framework to sustainably develop the water and sewerage sector and protect the country’s freshwater resources.
The ministry said the policy is designed to strengthen sector governance, improve service quality, and guarantee equal access to water and sewerage services for all citizens. It also emphasises the adoption of modern technology and innovative solutions to enhance service delivery.
Other key components include expanding research in the field and developing a skilled workforce to support the sector’s growth.
