A roadshow to promote Maldives tourism was held in three cities of China jointly by Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and local airline Mega Maldives. The roadshow was held in Beijing, Shanghai and Zhengzhou with the participation of 26 representatives from 16 companies of the tourism sector. MMPRC’s acting managing director Haris Mohamed and the Maldives ambassador to China Dr Mohamed Faisal had attended all three shows which showcased traditional Maldivian performances. According to an official of MMPRC, the roadshow delivered information on the Maldives’ tourism promotions to China’s travel agents and media. Discussions had also been held in the context of promoting Maldivian products on the Chinese market. The information sessions on Maldives tourism to Chinese media also included a lucky draw where three winners were awarded vacations to Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Luxury Resort and Meeru Island Resort & Spa. The official added that the roadshow will subsequently increase the influx of tourists to the Maldives. Statistics show that 31.6 percent of tourists to the island nation from January to October 2015 were from China.
