The government of Maldives will be responding to the submitted case of former President Mohamed Nasheed in the United Nation’s Working Group On Arbitrary Detention، says Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Dunya Maumoon.
In a press conference held today Minister Dunya stated the Government has been notified to respond to the case by the first week of July.
“We are working on the case، and will be responding to the Working Group before the deadline،” Dunya said.
Minister Dunya Maumoon highlighted that numerous baseless allegations were included in the communication، including the details of the trial and the allegations that Nasheed was restrained from his rights.
In addition، Dunya said the case has no imminent impact on the Maldives.
The case was sent on Nasheed’s behalf to the UN Working Group on April 30. The case was submitted by former First Lady (Madam) Laila Ali، the wife of ex-President Mohamed Nasheed.
