President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that all should work together to preserve the unity regardless of the political differences.
Addressing the nation regarding the 71st National Day, President Yameen stated that the people should take the opportunity to resolve to strengthen the bonds of unity and fraternity amongst us.
In this regard, he also called upon the people to prioritize national interests in all endeavours, and underscored the importance of advancing social harmony and peace amongst the people.
The President said that a concentrated effort to excuse the differences and unite upon that which the people agree on should be made.
“It is wrong to give foreign bodies the authority to have their influence over the internal affairs of our country,” he said.
In addition to this, the President stated that the people of Maldives showed their unity and solidarity during the 2004 Tsunami crisis.
He said that the victims of the crisis have all been provided with permanent shelter and not one remains in any of the temporary shelters.
The President also underscored the importance of protecting the rights of others as Maldives celebrates the unity day.
