The High Court has upheld the Criminal Court's decision to detain Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Ali Waheed and Adhaalath Party President, Sheikh Imran Abdulla for 15-days pending further investigation.
The High Court judges bench stated that they second the order of the Criminal Court to detain both the leaders for 15-days pending further investigation.
Both Sheikh Imran and Ali Waheed has been again taken back to Dhoonidhoo detention facility following the High Court’s verdict.
Ali Waheed said that he is ready to spend even his life time in prison for the sake of the people.
Sheikh Imran called the people to be steadfast and to continue standing up against tyranny.
Speaking about the condition in which he was kept in at the Dhoonidhoo Detention Facility, Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim said that he along with Ali Waheed and Sheikh Imran Abdulla were kept in jail cells where dangerous criminals are usually held at.
Ameen also called on the government to release all those who were detained during the 'May Day' protest, claiming that all of them were arrested outside the legal boundaries.
