Former President Mohamed Nasheed will be presented to the Civil Court at 13:30 this afternoon on the case submitted by the family.
The case was filed by Nasheed’s brother Mr. Nazim Abdul Sattar، for which the former president filed a joinder as well.
The case has been accepted by the Civil Court over the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) denying to facilitate family visits to the imprisoned former president – who is serving a 13 year jail sentence for terrorism charges.
The charges filed by Mr. Nazim Abdul Sattar against Correctional Services state that the authority had initially allowed him to meet with his elder brother – imprisoned ex president Nasheed – one day per week، however from 8th September the authority had denied to facilitate the visiting، for which Mr. Nazim had requested from the court to issue an order to reinstate his lost privilege.
Nazim had requested from the court to rule the order issued by Correctional Services is in direct violation of Article number 62 and 85 of Jails and Parole Act of Maldives، while Mohamed Nasheed’s attorneys have repeatedly stated the imprisonment of Nasheed after he had been transferred to house arrest is also a violation of conduct.
