A familiarisation programme for newly elected members of local councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDC) has concluded.
The programme was jointly conducted by the Local Government Authority (LGA) and the Maldives Institute of Local Governance (MILG), targeting members of the fifth term of councils and WDCs. It aimed to familiarise participants with their roles and responsibilities. A total of 174 council members, 166 WDC members, 74 secretaries general and administrative staff participated in the five-day online programme.
Key topics covered in the training included decentralisation and thr legal framework, council roles and procedures, development planning and public participation, financial management and responsibilities, right to information, digital governance as well as performance management and good governance.
Sessions were delivered by the LGA, Civil Service Commission, and Information Office. Interactive Q&A sessions were also held.
Participants joined remotely from their respective councils and worked collaboratively during the training.
