President Dr Mohamed Muizzu visited the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) site in Hulhumale’ Phase II to inspect preparations for the commencement of the BML Affordable Housing Project.
The visit follows the President's participation in the groundbreaking ceremony held on 22 March for the development of 1,224 housing units in Hulhumale’ – a key component of the government's housing policy, financed by the Bank of Maldives (BML).
During the briefing on preparations, the President emphasised the importance of timely progress and called on the company's management to proceed without delay. In response, senior CMEC officials assured that the development remains on track for completion within the scheduled timeframe.
The President was accompanied by Cabinet Ministers, senior BML officials, CMEC representatives, and heads of relevant State-Owned Enterprises.
The Affordable Housing Project forms part of the administration's policy to develop 3,260 housing units across Hulhumale' Phase I, Hulhumale' Phase II, and Vilimale' through the BML Affordable Home Leasing scheme. The project is structured under a lease-to-own model, offering residents a pathway to homeownership. The government expects CMEC’s component of 1,224 housing units in Hulhumale’ to reach completion by mid-2028.
