In a significant move to celebrate and promote the nation's rich cultural offerings, the Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has officially launched a pioneering digital platform named ‘Creatol’.
The initiative was unveiled by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim at the Maldives Culture and Food Festival in Hulhumale’, marking a new chapter in how the archipelago’s essence is shared with the world.
Designed as a comprehensive one-stop shop, Creatol connects Maldivian content creators, tourism partners, and international brands with a global audience, focusing on the sale and promotion of digital arts and crafts inspired by the islands.
The platform’s name, ‘Creatol’, is a thoughtfully crafted portmanteau, blending the English word ‘creativity’ with the Dhivehi word for ‘atoll’. This symbolises its core mission—to be a convenient, inclusive space for both local and foreign artists to create and benefit from content rooted in the Maldivian experience.
Initially featuring photographs and videos, Creatol will showcase a diverse array of visual content that captures the authentic heart of the Maldives—from its vibrant local culture and pristine nature to everyday life and unique rural experiences.
According to VMC CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree, this initiative is a strategic door for Maldivian artists to reach the international stage. Simultaneously, it consolidates the perspectives of visiting foreign creators, offering a holistic and multifaceted promotion of the destination.
More than just a marketplace, Creatol is a key part of VMC's broader vision to amplify Maldives-related conversations globally and support artists, ultimately enriching the nation's profile across various creative fields.
