President decides to relocate residents of Hirimaradhoo to Hanimaadhoo via Presidential Decree

The President has decided to relocate the residents of HDh. Hirimaradhoo to Hanimaadhoo within the same atoll and has amended the relevant decree to reflect this change.
This decision is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to facilitate the relocation of the island’s residents to a different location.
According to the President’s Office, one of the primary objectives of this change is to ensure that the residents of Hirimaradhoo are integrated into the Hanimaadhoo constituency for the Local Council Elections scheduled for 2026.
Under the government’s decision, once the residents of Hirimaradhoo have settled and officially completed their registration in Hanimaadhoo, Hirimaradhoo will be removed from the official list of inhabited islands in the Maldives. This marks the final stage of the process for the entire community to migrate to another island.
The implementation of this amendment will follow a specific procedure. The Presidential Decree states that the amendment will come into effect on the date the government officially announces that the residents of Hirimaradhoo have completed their resettlement in Hanimaadhoo.
